These were the words he said. Sirius and Remus backed down, but not for the reasons Harry thought.

In truth, James probably would have understood if they’d killed Peter. If it was the other way around, there’s even a chance he’d have done the same. James Potter was not the reason Sirius and Remus backed down.

In that moment… in those words… the two men saw Lily. The flash of green eyes. The prevailing sense of justice. The absolute and ruthless kindness. The fierce insistence that revenge was not a viable answer.

They reckoned Lily Potter wouldn’t have wanted them to become killers, and so they didn’t.

I want to tell y’all a story about supporting and loving your partner, starring my amazing wife.

I’ve mentioned before that I had an eating disorder for many years, and though I consider myself “recovered” there are aspects of my disorder that I still struggle with today — being quite a bit heavier than my wife is one of them.

When my wife and I moved in together back when we were still girlfriends, I was at my skinniest. She used to pick me up all the time and lift me off the ground, and I’d laugh and kick out my legs ‘cause I was just delighted to have her holding me.

But I started gaining weight as I went through recovery, and where once we were pretty close in size, I began to get bigger. And bigger. And bigger. And she remained her naturally petite self. I began to almost dread when she’d try to pick me up, sure that this time she wouldn’t be able to get me off the ground.

But every time, even if I protested, she’d lift me up and say something like: “See, you’re not so big that I can’t lift you!”

And one time I just blurted out: “But someday I’m going to be so fat you won’t be able to.”

She looked me dead in the eye and said: “No you won’t. Because if that ever happens, I’ll start working out.”

It was the best possible thing she could have said to me, because she wasn’t saying I wasn’t going to get fat — neither of us knew that for sure. She was just saying that I was never going to be “too fat” for her.

And every time I worry about getting bigger, I remember that I’ll never be so big that she can’t lift me, because baby knows how much I love being held, and she’ll change her own habits to ensure that I never feel “too big” or “too heavy” because in her eyes I’ll never be “too” anything.

Anyway, there’s a moral to this story: Find yourself a partner who will never consider you an excess. You should never be “too much” to someone who loves you — too big, too loud, too passionate, too awkward, whatever your “too” happens to be. And even as you change and grow (in my case, literally), the right person will be there through the changes, to tell you that you’re always just right for them.

perhaps most importantly, sigourney weaver as ripley in aliens encapsulated both what we admired and what we desired in a woman. ripley was one of very few 3 dimensional female heroes anywhere in the sci-fi/horror genre at the time-for many of us, she was our first experience with a woman in our favorite kind of movie who had any agency or personality. she was everything that only male protagonists were allowed to be-sympathetic and badass, irreverent and powerful, flawed and…for once, pretty much completely unconcerned with the male gaze. do yall remember ripley givin a shit abt men? no? thats bc the movie was about her killing aliens. that mattered

she was allowed to sleep without a pushup bra and false eyelashes on. she was allowed to sweat and make ugly faces. she swore and wore high neck shirts so her tits werent always falling out because it was fucking practical. and she wasn’t punished for it-she saved the day (arguably) and we rooted for her bc we saw in her not only ourselves but the person we wished we could be-she was what any successful action hero is to their audience, and for the first time, she wasn’t some jacked dude in combat boots sweating his way to glory

for once, what we saw on screen was more like actual women than the fantasy women often presented for the male gaze,,,,and a lot of us liked it. she wasn’t just attractive bc of her bouncy hair and big brown eyes-she was attractive bc we wanted to BE her, we wanted to know her. and we all kinda felt like we already did-like we were her, like we knew her, like she could be real because she wasn’t some pumped up starlet with her titties out and her lips outing at the camera while the action happened behind her

so the reason why sigourney weaver is hot doesn’t actually have anything to do with her. she’s good looking, but in an unconventional way-and i wouldn’t say that she’s the hottest woman ive ever seen. what she meant for a lot of young women developmentally is what makes us fixate on her and remember her so fondly and be so invested in her now-she came to us at a time and from a place where she was needed. you know, like heroes do

ok so this movie came out like, 2005ish? And this kid was in his early teens, so 12-14 years old i guess. And he’s watching this movie and there’s the scene where the chewing gum kid, Violet something, is chewing the gum that tastes like a three course meal and the first two tastes are tomato soup and roast beef and that’s all well and good but then it gets to blueberry pie and OOP she’s all swollen up like a ten-foot tall human blueberry. And this kid, being the age he was, had just kinda started puberty and might’ve had a little crush on Violet to start with, so all the feelings and hormones got a lil mixed up while watching that scene and he ended up with a great big inflation kink. So this is a thing for a few more years, he’s cranking his hog to deviantart pictures of big ol balloon ladies and the kink develops (as they sometimes do) into one where he gets off from watching those videos where people eat a ton of food. But then from there he starts to become interested, not in the person eating the food, but the food itself. Pretty soon he’s watching cooking video tutorials and attempting to cook for his family and within a couple years he’s got good. Real good. So good, in fact, that he publishes a modest cookbook at age 17 and makes enough money off selling it to buy himself a car. By the time he’s graduated highschool he’s had scholarships and apprenticeship offers from no less that 5 separate cooking schools, three of which were international. He told me all this inbetween throwing up in a bathtub at a party we were both at. I hadn’t actually met him beforehand but id seen him around school a few times (he was a couple years older than me). Last I heard of him, he’s working as the head chef in some big boy restaurant back in my city and has at least one award for something. And that’s how some guy became a professional chef thanks to tim burtons charlie and the chocolate factory movie

you know what trope pisses me off the most? when the protag is pointing a gun at somebody and they’re like “you won’t do it. you’re too good” and the person holding the gun is like oh shit i am and they slowly lower the gun while the other person laughs. WHAT THE FUCK. if i were there, and somebody told me “you won’t do it” i would immediately shoot them dead without hesitating. who are you to tell me what i wont do. musty bitch

Keep in mind that there is almost always a third option, most especially when the person talking is vague about what, precisely, it is that you “won’t do.”
